Unity Day 2025
Friday June 27, 2025 10:35am - 11:30am BST
Handwriting is a complex skill , far more complex than reading because it involves physical dexterity as well as cognitive processing.
Margaret Williamson, creator of 'Kinetic Letters', addresses : -
1) Physical strength, dexterity and body development
2) Pencil grip
3) Letter and number formation – where they start, where they end
4) Flowing and fluent joined-up writing
This course will guide you through the first two threads of the Kinetic Letters programme - Red Thread : 'Making Bodies Stronger' and Yellow Thread : 'Learning the Letters'. The Red Thread focuses on physical strengthening of the body, motor and spatial preparation and enabling writing positions. The Yellow Thread includes dynamic movements for learning letters, text organisation and sensory experiences for memory and recall.
Come along and see how this can all be put into practice in your Nursery and Reception classrooms through fun and active adult-led sessions as well as looking at how children's physical skills can be developed within continuous provision, indoors and outside, as they play and explore!
