We'll llook at what the international research base tells us about belonging in terms of what affects it and what effect a strong sednse of belonging has. We'll consider what it means in our contexts. Do you think you know what promotes belonging in your school? Does it match watch your students think? How do you manage the trade off between behaviour management and promoting belonging? Find out what we discovered when we researched what undermines belonging in our school.
A look at the science behind why our students are suffering as they are and what you can proactively do about it other than a shoulder for them to cry on. I am a qualified Child and Adolescent Mental Health Coach and a mum who has been through the mill, fought the MH system and come out the other side. Let's turn attention seeking into meeting a need, rude into struggling and really understand what is going on - they are growing up in a different world to us so we need a different approach.
This session will empower staff to shape students' communication skills, focusing specifically on oracy strategies. In the session, practical strategies will be shared, modelled and practised and staff will leave with a range of resources ready to use in the classroom. Findings from contemporary research will be identified & discussed. Strategies will draw on findings from the Oracy Commission Report, and examples used in the Voice21 programme. The aim of the session is for staff to feel confident when teaching, modelling and assessing students' oracy skills, enabling the students to become confident and effective speakers in the classroom and beyond.
